Charakteristik
Der Kolosserbrief ist ein kämpferisches Rundschreiben an die Gemeinden in der Gegend um Kolossä, worin sich vermutlich ein Paulusschüler mit dem nicht mehr den Ursprüngen gemäßen Glauben der Empfänger („kolossische Philosophie“) auseinandersetzt. Der kolossischen Philosophie setzt er eine Besinnung auf Christus als dem Haupt aller Dinge entgegen. Neue theologische Gedanken werden artikuliert, um das Verhalten der Kolosser wegzubewegen von den Forderungen der kolossischen Philosophie hin zu einem Leben, das dem jetzigen Status der Adressaten, mit Christus auferstanden zu sein, entspricht. Daher spielt der Lebenswandel eine besondere Rolle im Brief.
In Aufbau, Sprache und Theologie eng verwandt ist der Epheserbrief, nur dass dort weniger der Lebenswandel als die Erkenntnis über das völkerüberspannende Heil in Christus im Mittelpunkt steht. Soweit es sinnvoll ist, werden aufgrund der Ähnlichkeit vor allem des Aufbaus beide Briefe zusammen behandelt.
